Cordaysha Scott
Lakeland High School graduate Cordaysha Scott of Suffolk found many opportunities through her involvement with SOAR Virginia. It led her to Sentara Obici Hospital, where she mentored children from ages 5-15, and to the Salvation Army, which introduced her to successful, hardworking women. The program paired her with advisor Jacqueline Matthews, whose impact on Cordaysha’s life was profound and appreciated. "Ms. Matthews has been more than just an advisor," she said. "[She’s also been] a counselor, mentor, and enormous supporter of me." Receiving the SOAR Virginia scholarship – noted as one of Cordaysha’s proudest moments – opened Cordaysha’s college options and helped her to "establish bonds with individuals that will last a lifetime."
